This little creek never ceases to amaze me! In the midst of one of the most severe droughts we have seen in decades, Brushy Creek still flows! The fishing does get quite a bit tougher in the winter but there are still fish to be caught. For the most part, you will need to fish weighted streamer patterns and nymphs in the deeper holes. The only major exception to this pattern is the wintertime dry fly hatch. On slower flowing stretches of Brushy, we see a very consistent hatch of midges and small mayflies throughout the winter. Fishing wider pools that still have a small amount of current flow is usually the best bet for consistent dry fly activity. Fish blue winged olive mayflies in sizes 18-20 and midges in cream and slate in sizes 11-22. If you see fish rising consistently make sure you tie on a small dry fly!!
