San Gabriel River Fishing Reports

Thanks to the recent rains, there is a little water in the Gabriel.  However, many stretches are still not flowing and the majority of the river is just standing water trapped in pools.  We have heard several reports of fish being caught in very specific locations on the Gabe but for the most part the fishing remains slow due to the lack of rain this past summer.  If you choose to fish the San Gabriel, focus on deep pools that have been spring fed throughout the summer and you will most likely find resident populations of fish that made it through.  Fish streamers, large nymphs, and crayfish patterns near the bottom of these pools for the best results.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be stocking rainbow trout in two different locations on the San Gabriel River this winter.  They will stock Blue Hole Park in Georgetown on December 7, 2011 and San Gabriel Park in Georgetown on January 11, 2012.
